Introduction to Lakeland
Lakeland is a family business and we like to feel is a happy, lively place in which to work. We started selling sheepskin coats and other related products in the mid 60’s in Ambleside and since that time have added a variety of other items such as leathers, knitwear and co-ordinated ranges of ladies and men’s fashion separates.
We do not believe in sacrificing either comfort or quality for trends, concentrating on providing unique clothing collections for individuals who are fashion aware, yet who still want to retain their individuality.
The Head Office and Central Warehouse is in Ambleside and we have shops spread throughout the Country.
As you would expect from a leading retailer, rates of pay and general conditions are excellent.

Training
When you join Lakeland, you will receive thorough training in all aspects of a sales assistants job, so that you will enjoy your work and achieve the satisfaction of a ‘job well done’. We place great emphasis on training and ensure all our sales staff have the opportunity to complete our comprehensive training plan and attend regular and ongoing training sessions.
Staff Discount
On confirmation of appointment, 33% discount is allowed on items bought by members of staff for themselves or as a present.
Wages
Wages will be commensurate with experience and are paid weekly directly into your bank account. Future rates of pay depend entirely upon individual effort and improved effectiveness with appraisal (and re-grading where applicable).
Bonus Scheme
Lakeland operates a generous bonus scheme which is paid monthly as achieved.
Bank Holiday Supplements
Because of the nature of the retail business, there are times when staff are expected to work Bank Holidays. Full-time staff and part-time staff receive generous supplements when working these days.
Lunch Breaks/ Coffee Breaks
All Lakeland shops have fully fitted kitchen (complete with microwave) and the normal lunch break is half an hour. There are two 10 minute breaks during the day, depending on hours worked, and tea and coffee are provided free.

Full-Time Staff
Hours
The opening hours of our shops depend upon the time of the year and the location. Normal hours of work are 9.30am – 5.30pm during the week days and 9.00am – 5.30pm on Saturdays. However, each shop is looked at individually and hours are arranged according to the trading pattern of the town.
Holidays with Pay
All full-time staff have 5 weeks, 2 days paid holiday, i.e. 27 days, during the first year, which increases to 6 weeks, 3 days after 6 years (this includes Bank Holidays).
Staff Dress
This consists of outfits chosen from our stock and a generous allowance is given each season.
Part-Time Staff
Hours
Initially, part-time hours will be quite high to ensure training is given as quickly as possible, but thereafter, hours are to suit both staff and Lakeland.
There may be times when shops are short-staffed and managers would, therefore like to be able to call on part-timers to do extra hours, e.g. sale time, staff absences due to sickness, e.t.c.
