Our Favourite Dog Friendly Cafes in the Lake District

We are officially an office of dog lovers here at Lakeland Leather, so we thought we would share on local Lake District knowledge on the best places to eat with your four-legged friends this Summer!

Ambleside

📍The Force Cafe – All dogs are welcome, both inside and outside on the huge terrace at Force Cafe. The menu is full of delicious food from Brunch to Lunch and sweet treats. They can also cater for Gluten free and vegetarian diets.

Named after it’s neighbouring Stock Ghyll Force Waterfall which is well worth a visit before you eat. The cafe has incredible views across Ambleside and Windermere, and on really sunny days you can see way over into the Langdales and Coniston fells.

Keswick

📍Jasper’s Coffeehouse – Probably one of the most dog friendly cafes ever, and even named after one of the owners Cockapoos, Jasper’s offers a yummy menu of hot and cold, lunch and brunch dishes, plus delicious hot drinks and amazing coffee.

This cafe doesn’t just welcome dogs, they encourage owners to send photos of their dogs via Facebook and regularly run a competition where the picture that gets the most likes gets a framed photo on Jasper’s wall inside the cafe.

Perfectly positioned in the heart of Keswick (and around the corner from our Keswick store!) it’s the perfect pit stop.

Coniston

📍Herdwicks Cafe – Perfectly positioned in the heart of Coniston Village, Herdwicks has a menu that will cover you from light bites to hearty meals plus a selection of sweet treats. Fear not, your furry friend is also included as they also sell dog friendly ice cream!

There are tonnes of walks around Coniston, including the Coniston to Hawskhead route which also gives you the option to take in Tarn Hows. Or for the more adventurous you can head up to the Old Man of Coniston.

Ulverston

📍 The Honeysuckle Cafe & Bistro – Located in the quaint town of Ulverston, the Honeysuckle cafe has a great menu full of light bites to more filling meals. They welcome well-behaved four-legged friends and even have water bowls available for thirsty pups. They also offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.

Once you’ve filled yourself up, take the hike up The Sir John Barrow Monument, known locally as “Hoad,” it’s a 100-foot tower atop Hoad Hill in Ulverston, and was built in 1850 to honour Sir John Barrow. Modelled on the Eddystone Lighthouse, this Grade II* listed, unlit monument offers panoramic views of Morecambe Bay and the Lake District.

Bowness-on-windermere

📍The Fizzy Tarte – They offer a fantastic menu, with the highlights being their coveted afternoon tea! They have a few options and if you’ve had enough cups of tea for the day, upgrade to their premium or champagne afternoon tea for a real treat!

They are super dog friendly, and know how important it is to create a relaxed and comfortable environment for your four-legged friend. They even have dog treats and water bowls.

Head down the water front to admire views over to the Langdales and beyond then head for a cake and sandwich.
