For fashion design student, Brogan Thomson-Woods, it's a dream come true. She entered a our national competition to design a leather jacket - and she won!
The competition was open to everyone and attracted many entrants from the general public to fashion & design students from the UK and further afield. We were delighted with the quality of the designs entered in the competition, and it clearly bodes well for UK fashion.
In the end we whittled the designs down to a shortlist of three, and 40,000 social media views later, Brogan's design emerged as the winner. The jacket, named after Brogan, captured over 55% of all votes. Crafted from goat suede, a very high quality luxurious leather that wears well and is particularly soft and supple, the jacket was inspired by her father's love of the outdoors. Brogan's aim was to create an elegant 'field jacket' smart enough to wear to a posh restaurant, but capable of being dressed down to create a casual 'go anywhere' look.
Brogan, who has since graduated from De Montfort University said, "I can't believe I'm wearing a jacket I designed! I learnt such a lot from the competition as I worked with Lakeland's design and production team to see the process through from start to finish. I'm so excited to see my winning design on sale in a shop, it really is a dream come true!"
The Brogan is on-sale now in all Lakeland Leather stores and website. 10% of all sales will be donated to Breast Cancer Care.
